Training

In the arena of personal skill, the virtue of patience is particularly important to the scraping hand. Often, changes in flatness and improved bearing quality occur slowly and only after numerous cycles of spreading the marking medium, taking a reading, scraping high spots, deburring, cleaning the surface and finally spreading new marking medium, thus beginning the process all over again.

We are in an age of computers, fax machines, cell phones, and countless other innovations, which put us in a mindset of expecting immediate results in many aspects of life. The art of hand scraping is a skill that often does not produce immediate results; in fact, changes in overall surface qualities, more often than not, occur slowly. Scraping is a skill that must be practiced over an extended period of time so that proper techniques can be developed over a wide variety of diverse geometric forms. Again, patience is a necessity.
